The Party of Wales Arfon Standing up for the people of Arfon

As the winter months and flu season fast close in on us, the Beat Flu Team is once again launching its campaign to encourage people to get in touch with their GP surgeries and arrange a flu jab. Every winter in the UK thousands of people are affected by illnesses brought on by flu, with 170,000 people in Wales suffering, especially those within the at-risk groups who are more likely to contract the illness and suffer badly as a consequence.

Plaid Cymru Member of Parliament for Arfon, Hywel Williams will today (Tuesday 16.10.18) introduce a Private Members Bill in the House of Commons which seeks to redress flaws in the Government’s Cold Weather Payment system, denying vulnerable people in his Arfon constituency cash support during periods of prolonged cold weather.

In the Assembly last week World School Milk Day was celebrated with the Members all receiving a pint of Welsh milk as a symbol of the importance of the Welsh dairy industry. One of those to receive the milk – from a local dairy – was Arfon AM for Plaid Cymru, Sian Gwenllian.

Plaid Cymru led Gwynedd Council has today become the first Welsh County Council to pass a motion calling on the Government in Westminster to put an end to the indefinite detention of migrants, asylum seekers and refugees.

Last week in the Senedd in Cardiff, Arfon AM Sian Gwenllian once more asked First Minister Carwyn Jones for an explanation.

Plaid Cymru Member of Parliament for Arfon Hywel Williams and Assembly Member Siân Gwenllian have warned that farming communities in north Wales face a ‘perfect storm’ of destabilising and sweeping cuts to their incomes as the Welsh Labour government push ahead with controversial plans to scrap basic farm payments.

Siân Gwenllian AM welcomes the news that Gwynfor Coaches is to take over the running of the no.88 Llanberis service to Caernarfon from Monday, 24th of September after Arriva decided not to continue the service. Arriva will still be running the service on Sundays.

Barbara Bus Gwynedd has opened a new base at Ceris Newydd Nursing Home, Treborth offering an invaluable service to wheelchair users who cannot use public transport and have no other means of getting out and about.

Plaid Cymru Member of Parliament for Arfon, Hywel Williams and Welsh Assembly Member Siân Gwenllian have joined forces with local business owners in Arfon calling on the Welsh Labour Government to overhaul the small business rate relief scheme so that businesses with a rateable value of £10,000 or less are exempt from paying the tax.

Following a visit to a farm near Rhostryfan in the Arfon Constituency, the Assembly Member for the area says the Welsh Government must offer urgent financial assistance to farmers facing difficulties in producing food for their animals. This follows this year’s extreme weather conditions that has limited crop and food-stock production.
