Arfon MP to hold special advice surgery to help constituents with water bills

Water customers could save up to £250 on bills.

Plaid Cymru Member of Parliament for Arfon, Hywel Williams will hold a special drop-in surgery in Bangor this Friday (25.11.16), where constituents can seek advice on how to save money on their water bills.

Mr Williams is urging low earners in his constituency to take advantage of Dŵr Cymru’s HelpU tariff, specifically designed to help households with a total annual income of £15,000 or less.

The drop-in surgery will be held at the MATRA Office in Maesgeirchen, Bangor between 4.00-6.00pm on Friday November 25th, 2016.

A similar surgery will be held by Arfon Assembly Member Siân Gwenllian in Noddfa Centre Caernarfon on Monday November 28th between 4.00-6.00pm.

Hywel Williams MP said,

“Welsh Water says that many thousands of customers could benefit from HelpU-and some could see their annual water and sewerage bill cut by a half.”

“People who qualify only have to get in touch with the company and they’ll be helped to make the switch to the HelpU tariff.”

“This is an initiative that would benefit many households in my constituency and I urge people to think about whether they qualify and, if so, to contact Dŵr Cymru immediately.”

“We know that for many families on low incomes the water bill exceeds five per cent of household income and so paying it can be a real struggle.”

“There are big savings available to those on low incomes. If you don’t qualify yourself, perhaps you know someone else who does. Please spread the word and let people know we are here to help.”

60,000 customers already benefit from Dŵr Cymru’s social tariffs for water and sewerage bills. HelpU is the company’s only social tariff based solely on household income.
